The series presented extended nonfiction reports that combined on-location journalism, interviews, and documentary filmmaking techniques to examine global affairs, public policy, and social change. As part of NBC’s public-affairs programming tradition, the series contributed to the development of long-form broadcast documentary journalism in the United States, with producer Arthur Zegart receiving Emmy recognition for the program’s early work.
