The Man Without Qualities
- 1930 –1932
- Renovada
A social, philosophical, and psychological novel about a cultural crisis and a crisis of human identity. Ulrich finds himself caught between reason and feeling, freedom and the necessity of choice, the desire for certainty and a conscious refusal to embrace it. Observing people, their beliefs, desires, and relationships, he tries to understand what shapes human identity and whether it is possible to exist without submitting to predetermined definitions. Through the protagonist’s inner contradictions and the complex world around him, the novel explores freedom, morality, love, rationality, and spirituality, presenting the individual as unfinished and constantly evolving.
